Carm’s Costs
Private Retainer Fee Structures
Carm accepts private retainers, but he does not work on contingency fees and he does not accept limited scope service agreements.
Family Law/Child Protection Matters in Court
Carm’s rate as of January 1, 2024 is $400.00 per hour plus HST plus disbursements.
Carm will require an initial retainer of $3,000.00 to commence his representation of you. A further retainer will be required once the initial retainer has been exhausted. At the end of his involvement, Carm will return any unused monies to you.
Once retained, Carm will discuss your anticipated legal costs with you on a regular basis.
Separation Agreements, Cohabitation Agreements, Marriage Contracts, and other Out-of-Court Agreements
Carm’s costs for negotiating, preparing, and drafting the agreement is a flat fee starting at $2,500.00 plus HST plus disbursements.
Carm’s costs for providing independent legal advice for such agreements/contracts is a flat fee starting at $500.00 plus HST plus disbursements.
Once again, once retained, Carm will discuss your anticipated legal costs with you on a regular basis.
Uncontested Divorces
Carm’s costs for preparing, drafting and filing an uncontested divorce the agreement is a flat fee starting at $1,500.00 plus HST plus disbursements.
Once again, once retained, Carm will discuss your anticipated legal costs with you on a regular basis.
Wills and Powers of Attorney
Carm’s cost to prepare a will and two powers of attorney for one person is a flat fee starting at $800.00 plus HST plus disbursements.
Carm’s cost to prepare a will and two powers of attorney for a couple is a flat fee starting at $1,400.00 plus HST plus disbursements.
Carm’s costs for an individual will or individual powers of attorney may be arranged directly with Carm.
Estate Administration
As set out above, Carm’s rate as of January 1, 2024 is $400.00 per hour plus HST plus disbursements. Once retained, Carm will discuss your anticipated legal costs with you on a regular basis.
Legal Aid Certificates
Carm accepts legal aid certificate for family law and child protection matters.
However, there may be times when Carm will pause from accepting legal aid certificates, due to a heavy workload, as he does not want to disappoint his clients and provide them with unacceptable service delays.

Other Legal Service Plans (such as Unifor)
Carm accepts other legal service plans, such as Unifor. Please check with your employer/HR department/union if you have any available legal service benefits coverage.
